No 8 Protecting Wildlife
To quote Prince William, many endangered species are dying out at an alarming rate. Whales, sharks and dolphins are in danger of extinction due to being netted for their valuable fins, while insects, deer and kangaroos are becoming distinct because their living spaces are being reduced. Fortunately, we’ve made great progress in preventing the mass distinction.
On the plain of Tibet, hunters searched for herds of Tibetan antelopes with binoculars. Intending to make profits, they shot these sacred creatures and skinned them, which meant removing their fur. In an effort to recover their population, the authorities are taking effective measures, such as building reserves, banning buying related goods, and watching over them day and night to keep them from attacks.
Aside from illegal hunting, habitat loss brought about by modern civilization is threatening wildlife. Birds and koalas are under pressure to adapt to the field, where billions of trees on average are being cut down every year. It’s for this reason that the WWF constantly advertise unusual species through posters, bird field guides, and animal fact sheets to stir up public emotions and interest in their welfare.
When it comes to wildlife conservation, what on earth should we do to preserve our neighborhood? Only when we learn to exist in harmony with them can we stop being a threat to Earth; Only if we can make out their beauty will we volunteer our time to care for them; Only by observing them closely will we be reminded of their past, be aware of their present, and be concerned about their future.
