During the Middle Ages, painters use primitive and two-dimensional works to show characters from religious mythology. As Christianity declined in the Renaissance, subsequent painters adopt a more humanistic attitude to life, setting their works apart from the former ones. With breakthrough in perspective and oil paints in particular, influential realists precisely preserve realistic scenes and people’s appearance. Before contemporary photography emerged, brides, nobles, and other clients of high rank wanted to purchase accurate portraits of themselves from masters of realism.

The highlight of ancient Chinese art emerged in the Tang Dynasty, when trade boomed and Buddhism showed expansion. We have bronze bowls, ceramic vases and jade sculptures, most of which are of Buddhist origin. Also of primary note is ink wash paintings. When humble bookmen failed to gain entry into the civil service, they tried to gain recognition and reputation as painters. Fond of painting pond with water lilies or sunrise over a arched bridge, they sought to convey not just the outer image of these subjects, but their inner humanity and subjective criticism as well.

Then comes an exhibition displaying Cubism sculptures sculpted by contemporary, modern and emerging sculptors. What is worthy of your attention is that they don’t emphasize the precise frame of objects, creating abstract and dream-like visual effects.
